Apple and Intel reach preliminary agreement for U.S. chip manufacturing
Follow spoken words in real time.
Apple and Intel have made a first agreement to produce some of Apple’s special computer chips in the United States. This decision comes after long talks and is part of Apple’s plan to use more than one company for its chips. Apple hopes this new step will reduce its need for chips from its main supplier, TSMC.
Apple and Intel have worked together before, but Apple changed to its own chips made by TSMC in 2020. Now, Apple wants a stronger local supply because of recent problems in chip production and delivery. A new deal with Intel could help Apple avoid delays in the future.
Intel will benefit from the agreement as it wants to make chips for other companies, not just its own. The U.S. government also supports this move to produce more technology at home. By working together in the U.S., both Apple and Intel may become stronger in the changing global chip market.
