Alphabet, the parent company of Google, recently reported a very large amount of spending on artificial intelligence (AI). Although Alphabet made $119.8 billion in revenue last quarter, it spent so much money on AI projects that it had its first negative free cash flow. This means the company used more money than it earned in the quarter.

The reason for this high spending is that many companies now want to use AI for different jobs, such as customer service and research. To meet this demand, Google spent $44.9 billion on new data centres, special computer chips, and other important equipment to make its AI better and faster.

Because of this record spending, Google now has some of the biggest technology infrastructure in the world. Alphabet hopes this investment will help people and businesses use smarter AI services in the future.
