US Dollar Slips as Markets React to Election Results
Follow spoken words in real time.
On 5 November, the value of the US dollar fell a little after results from the American midterm elections were announced. The Democratic Party, one of the two main political parties in the United States, won large majorities in both parts of the US Congress, called the House of Representatives and the Senate. This news made the euro and Japanese yen become a bit stronger against the US dollar.
The main reason for this change was that investors now feel there is less political uncertainty in the United States. With the Democrats controlling Congress, people think there will be fewer sudden changes in American government policy. This gives investors more confidence in global markets.
Because of this election result, many investors now believe there will be less risk of big political events that could change the economy. As a result, prices in global stock markets and in US government bonds went up. Markets will keep watching for new political and economic news to help decide future investments.
