Eddie Murphy receives AFI’s top honour

Eddie Murphy received the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award in Los Angeles on Saturday night. The event celebrated his long career in comedy and film, which has lasted over five decades. Murphy, who is now 65 years old, accepted the award and thanked the audience.
Many famous performers from the entertainment industry attended the ceremony. Jennifer Hudson sang songs from Dreamgirls, and comedians spoke about how Murphy helped change Hollywood, especially for Black performers and popular comedy.
Murphy became famous on Saturday Night Live in the 1980s and later acted in films like Beverly Hills Cop and Shrek. The award recognised his long and varied career in American entertainment. The ceremony will be available to stream on Netflix from 31 May.
