Hollywood stars push back against studio merger
Follow spoken words in real time.
More than 1,000 people who work in films have signed a letter against the planned $110 billion merger between Warner Bros Discovery and Paramount Skydance. The letter says this deal would make it harder for filmmakers to find jobs and get money for new projects. Some well-known actors are included in the group that signed the letter.
The letter explains that past company mergers in Hollywood have already led to fewer films and less variety. Opponents believe this new merger could reduce opportunities for workers and limit choices for audiences.
The companies have not replied to the letter yet. Experts say the letter could increase public discussion about the merger. Regulators in the United States and Europe are now expected to study the deal in detail, and the state of California is also investigating it.
