Meta's New AI Feature Will Alert Parents if It Detects Signs of Teen Self-Harm
Follow spoken words in real time.
Meta, a large technology company in the United States, has added a new safety feature to Instagram. Now, parents will get an alert if Meta’s artificial intelligence (AI) thinks that a teenager using Instagram may be at risk of suicide or self-harm. This change is coming to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
Meta says it made this change to help parents see warning signs early. Before, if a teen talked to Meta’s AI about self-harm, the AI only gave information about support services. Now, if the AI sees real danger, it may notify a parent or guardian who supervises the teen’s account.
Because of this, parents might know sooner if their child is in trouble and can talk to them before a crisis happens. Meta hopes this will help keep young people safe on Instagram.
