A new report in the United States has found that many common fruits and vegetables have pesticides on them. The Environmental Working Group, or EWG, tested more than 54,000 samples with information from the government. They found these pesticide chemicals on foods like spinach, strawberries, grapes, and apples.
The group mainly wanted to see if some of these chemicals match the international description of PFAS, which are called “forever chemicals” because they can stay in the environment for a long time.
EWG said that 96% of their annual "Dirty Dozen" fruit and vegetable samples had some pesticide residue. Spinach had the highest levels, followed by leafy greens, strawberries, and grapes. The group recommends washing all fresh produce to make it safer to eat.
