Could AI Data Centers One Day Move into Space?
Follow spoken words in real time.
SpaceX, a US space company, has shared a new idea of putting artificial intelligence (AI) computers in space. At the moment, AI uses a lot of electricity and needs big data centres on Earth. SpaceX thinks that computers in space could get energy from the Sun, because satellites can use solar power all the time and do not need to stop for night.
The reason for this idea is that Earth-based centres are getting harder to build because they use too much electricity and need a lot of cooling. In space, the cold environment and strong sunlight can make running computers easier and more efficient, according to supporters.
Because of this plan, investors and engineers are now discussing if building computer centres in space is possible. However, it would cost a lot of money and be hard to repair. For now, Earth data centres are still the main choice for running AI systems.
