A group of Chinese scientists has found the largest whale graveyard ever discovered in the Indian Ocean. The site is located in the deep Diamantina Fracture Zone and contains almost 500 whale skeletons. Researchers used special machines to explore the seafloor more than 4,000 metres below the surface.

The bones were spread over a large area, showing that the site has collected whale remains for hundreds of years. Scientists believe that ocean currents and the shape of the seafloor helped to gather so many skeletons in one place.

At the graveyard, experts also found a new species of whale. The discovery will help scientists learn more about how whales changed over time and how they lived in the deep sea. The site is important for studying ocean life and understanding the need to protect deep-sea environments.
