Humanoid Robot Breaks Usain Bolt’s 100m Record
Follow spoken words in real time.
At the 2026 World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, a humanoid robot called Tiangong Ultra ran 100 metres in 9.39 seconds. This is faster than the human world record of 9.58 seconds, which was set by Usain Bolt in 2009. The race happened at the National Speed Skating Oval in Beijing.
The robot was made by a research centre in Beijing. It used new technology, including strong artificial muscles and smart sensors, to run quickly and keep its balance. This technology allows the robot to move more like a human runner, but even faster.
The main result is that robots can now run faster than humans. This sprint was the highlight of a five-day event with over 2,000 robots competing in many sports. Experts say this shows how much robot design has improved in China.
