Andy Burnham Set to Become Prime Minister After Starmer Resigns
Follow spoken words in real time.
Andy Burnham is set to become the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after Keir Starmer resigned suddenly. On the first day of Labour Party leadership nominations, Burnham received strong support from most Labour Members of Parliament. This means he is expected to take over as leader and Prime Minister soon, without any other strong competition from his party.
Burnham is a well-known politician and was the Mayor of Greater Manchester. He has worked in important government jobs before. He became the main choice because many in the Labour Party wanted stability in government after Starmer’s unexpected resignation.
As a result, Burnham will soon be asked by the King to form a new government. His appointment is expected early next week, after the Labour Party finishes its leadership process.
