China and Russia Conduct 11th Joint Air Patrol as Japan and South Korea Respond
Follow spoken words in real time.
On Saturday, China and Russia sent many bombers and fighter jets together on a joint air patrol near Japan and South Korea. Their aircraft flew for about six hours over the Sea of Japan, the East China Sea and the western Pacific. When the planes got close to Japanese and South Korean Air Defense Identification Zones, both countries sent their own fighter jets to watch and follow them.
China and Russia did this patrol to show their close military partnership. These joint patrols let their air forces practise flying together and using their planes over long distances without stopping. They also use the flights to practice working as a team.
After the patrol, all aircraft remained in international airspace and no incidents were reported. Japan and South Korea confirmed they only watched the planes and did not take further action.
