Deadly Van Attack Shocks Berlin Pride Festival
Follow spoken words in real time.
On Saturday night, a van drove into a crowd during Berlin’s annual Pride celebration in Tiergarten Park, killing one person and injuring at least 16 people. This happened just before 10 p.m., when thousands were gathering for parades and music. Police are treating it as a possible terrorist attack and have started a manhunt.
Police say the main cause was that the driver, a 21-year-old man, may have links to extremist groups. The man is known to the police, but they have not given more details about his reasons for the attack.
After the incident, the van was found abandoned, and police are looking for the suspect. Security across Berlin has increased, and investigators are asking people with information or videos to help as they continue their search.
