First Survivor Rescued from Flooded Laos Cave
Follow spoken words in real time.
Rescue teams in Laos have saved the first person trapped inside a flooded cave system after several days of difficult work. Heavy rain caused the cave to flood, blocking the exit and leaving several people still inside. Emergency workers, including divers, military, and medical teams, were sent to help.
The rescue took place on 29 May. Teams faced strong water currents and narrow paths, but they brought food, water, and medical supplies to those trapped. The rescued person was sent to a hospital and is receiving care.
The operation continues as more rain is expected in the area. Authorities say rescue work will go on day and night to evacuate the rest of the group. The situation is drawing international attention and is one of Southeast Asia’s most complex rescue missions.
