A shooting interrupted the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in Washington on Saturday night. The event took place at the Washington Hilton, with many journalists, politicians and public figures attending. Security officers acted quickly after shots were heard near the ballroom, and important officials were moved to safe areas.

Police said a man with weapons was arrested after the incident. One law-enforcement officer was injured, but protective equipment stopped serious harm. President Trump and other senior officials were not hurt. The dinner was cancelled, and police are still investigating the cause.

The incident has increased concerns about security at big public events in Washington. The dinner is usually a well-known media occasion, but this year became a major security problem. Quick action by the Secret Service and police prevented more injuries, but there are questions about how the suspect got close to such an important event.
