US-Iran talks stall after envoys fail to meet
Follow spoken words in real time.
Ceasefire talks between the United States and Iran stopped before they started. Iran’s top diplomat left Pakistan, and US officials did not travel to Islamabad. The meetings were planned to help reduce tensions, but they were cancelled after President Trump told US negotiators not to go.
Iran wants talks to stay indirect, using Pakistan as a mediator. The United States keeps putting military and economic pressure on Iran. The main issues are Iran’s nuclear programme, its influence in the region, and control of the Strait of Hormuz.
The failure of these talks does not end diplomacy, but it shows there is little trust between the two sides. Iran’s foreign minister later went to Oman, which has helped as a mediator before. For now, the conflict is not resolved and could affect oil supplies and regional security.
