Two strong earthquakes hit the north-central coast of Venezuela, killing 2,954 people, according to government officials. More than 16,500 people were injured, and over 16,000 lost their homes. The earthquakes had magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 and struck less than a minute apart, causing heavy damage in the coastal state of La Guaira.

The earthquakes caused many buildings to collapse because they were not strong enough, especially in areas close to the coast. This is why the damage and loss of life were so high, as many people were inside homes and public buildings at the time.

As a result, authorities have set up 80 temporary shelter camps in different states to help families who lost their homes. Many people are now living in tents or temporary shelters, and rescue teams are still searching the collapsed buildings for survivors.
