Britney Spears has sold her music catalog rights, as confirmed by multiple sources. Primary Wave will now manage her share of famous songs, including “…Baby One More Time” and “Oops! … I Did It Again.”
The deal was reported to have been completed on December 30. While the exact sale price is not known, it has been suggested that it may be similar to Justin Bieber’s $200 million deal for his music rights in 2023.
Spears is not the only artist to sell her catalog. Primary Wave has a history of acquiring songs from major musicians. Last March, the company bought half of The Notorious B.I.G.’s estate. It has also purchased rights from the estates of Whitney Houston, Bob Marley, and Prince, among others.
Such acquisition deals can bring significant financial benefits for artists. They provide a large sum of money and lessen the burden of managing their music.
Spears, who ended a controversial 13-year conservatorship in 2021, has not released a new album since 2016’s “Glory.” She recently stated she would not perform in the US again. However, she has not ruled out making new music. In 2022, she worked with Elton John on “Hold Me Closer,” and in 2023, she released “Mind Your Business” with will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas.
