New Glenn successfully reached its planned orbit in today’s NG-1 mission, meeting our main goal. The rocket took off on January 16, 2025, at 2:03 a.m. EST from Launch Complex 36 in Cape Canaveral. The second stage is now in its final orbit after two burns by the BE-3U engines. The Blue Ring Pathfinder is working well and collecting data. Unfortunately, we lost the booster during descent.
Dave Limp, Blue Origin’s CEO, expressed pride in New Glenn achieving orbit on its first try. Future missions will carry cargo and crewed landers to the Moon as part of NASA’s Artemis program. New Glenn has received orders from NASA, Amazon’s Project Kuiper, AST SpaceMobile, and other companies. The rocket also aims to support national security missions. New Glenn is a crucial part of Blue Origin’s plans for space exploration. “Today is a milestone for Blue Origin and commercial space,” said Jarrett Jones, Senior Vice President of New Glenn.
