North Korean Hackers Blamed for Record $6.3 Billion Binance Theft
Follow spoken words in real time.
A group linked to North Korea stole about $6.3 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance, one of the world's largest digital currency exchanges. Two companies that study crypto security, TRM Labs and Chainalysis, said the group called TraderTraitor attacked Binance in October. They quickly took the money from several digital wallets and moved most of it in just 20 minutes.
Investigators believe TraderTraitor is one of North Korea's most effective hacking groups. The main reason for the attack is that North Korea wants money, as the country faces very strong economic restrictions from other countries. Experts say that these hackers often pretend to offer jobs to computer workers and then send them files with harmful software, allowing them to steal company secrets and money.
The main result of this theft is that it has become harder for cryptocurrency companies like Binance to keep money safe. Now, these companies are working fast to find and block the stolen funds, but it is difficult once the money is split and moved to many places. This event also makes governments more worried about the safety of digital currency exchanges.
