PayPal Cuts 25% of India Workforce in AI Restructuring
Follow spoken words in real time.
PayPal, a large American digital payments company, has started cutting many jobs in India. Reports say about a quarter of PayPal’s workers in India—around 1,500 people—could lose their jobs in this change. The job cuts mostly affect staff at PayPal’s big offices in Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, which are cities in India. In the most recent round, about 220 workers in India lost their jobs.
This is happening because PayPal wants to use more artificial intelligence (AI) to make its work faster and cheaper. The company is restructuring worldwide and aims to remove about 20% of its total workers over several years. Enrique Lores, the new CEO since 2026, is leading this major change as PayPal tries to save money and become more modern.
As a result of these job cuts, many workers at PayPal in India are now without jobs but were given severance pay to help them. Some workers said they only got the news by phone call or email. These changes are part of PayPal’s plan to focus more on AI and stay competitive globally.
