Trump Says Chinese Carmakers Could Build Cars in US
Follow spoken words in real time.
Former US President Donald Trump said he is open to allowing Chinese car companies to build cars in the United States if they employ American workers. Trump made these comments while the US government considers if Chinese carmakers should have more access to the American market. Right now, Chinese companies face strong import rules, which make it hard for them to sell cars in the US.
Trump explained that he would accept Chinese car factories in the US if these companies create jobs for Americans. He gave Japanese carmakers in the US as an example of foreign companies working in the country and helping the local economy. Trump also made it clear that he does not want Chinese cars made in other countries, like Mexico, to enter the US market.
Because of Trump's comments, there is now more debate about Chinese carmakers in the US. Supporters of US car companies worry that letting Chinese brands in will create harder competition for local businesses. Now, many people in the US are talking about whether Chinese car companies should be allowed to build and sell cars inside America.
