UK Watchdog Bans Fashion Ads Over Misleading Green Claims
Follow spoken words in real time.
The UK's Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned advertisements by Adidas, Uniqlo, and Calvin Klein. The ASA said these fashion brands made environmental claims that could mislead customers. The adverts spoke about products using recycled materials, but did not give enough proof or explain the true environmental impact of the whole product.
This happened because the companies used general terms like "eco-friendly" and "sustainable" without clear evidence. The ASA said customers might wrongly believe all parts of the products help the environment, even though only some materials are recycled.
As a result, the fashion brands are not allowed to use these advertisements anymore. The ASA now wants businesses to give clear, honest information when talking about environmental benefits, so people have the correct facts when choosing what to buy.
