George Lucas, the creator of *Star Wars*, and his wife Mellody Hobson, who is a businesswoman, are opening the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles. The museum has cost $1 billion. It has taken 17 years of planning. The museum is very large. It is in Exposition Park, near the University of Southern California where Lucas studied.
Lucas first wanted to build the museum in San Francisco, but the plan did not work. He also tried to build it in Chicago, but there were big legal problems. As a result, he decided on Los Angeles, where the city gave him space for the building.
The main goal of the museum is to show the power of pictures to tell stories. Visitors can see around 40,000 artworks. These include comic book drawings, photos, film costumes, and paintings. Many well-known artists are part of the collection.
