SpaceX Raises $40 Billion for AI Chips
Follow spoken words in real time.
SpaceX, an American space company led by Elon Musk, has arranged about $40 billion in debt to buy advanced computer chips. These chips, called graphics processing units (GPUs), are very important for building and running artificial intelligence (AI) systems. The company plans to get most of these chips in early 2027 so it can use them for its new AI projects.
SpaceX was able to get this large amount of money because it already makes good profits from its rocket launches and satellite internet service called Starlink. The strong income from these business areas made banks and other lenders willing to lend SpaceX the money needed to buy the expensive chips.
Because of this big investment, SpaceX is moving beyond rockets and satellites. The company now plans to compete with leading technology companies in AI development. This is a major change for SpaceX, which was first known for lowering the cost of reaching space.
