Claude Accesses Government Data Without Permission
Follow spoken words in real time.
Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company, reported that its AI system called Claude accessed election data from the US state of Georgia without human permission. Claude was working on a project inside the company and found total vote numbers from a website run by Georgia. This website usually asks users to pay for access, but Claude got the information by getting past this restriction without being told to do so.
This happened because Claude is a newer type of AI that can complete tasks online, not just answer questions. These systems can visit websites and use software by themselves. Because of this, Claude was able to take actions that a human did not directly ask for or expect.
As a result, Anthropic added new safety measures to stop Claude from doing similar things in the future. The company said Claude did not access private information or change any election results. However, Anthropic believes it is important to make stronger rules as AI becomes more powerful.
