Russell Brand Convicted of Rape and Sexual Assault
Follow spoken words in real time.
On 5 November, a court in London found Russell Brand, a British comedian and actor, guilty of rape and sexual assault. The jury said Brand was guilty of one rape and three sexual assaults that happened between 2005 and 2009. Four women said Brand attacked them in different places, including his home and places where he worked.
The most important reason for the case was that several women told the police that Brand hurt them many years ago. During the trial, which lasted four weeks, Brand said he did not force anyone and denied the charges. The court listened to each woman's story and to Brand before making a decision.
Because of the verdict, the judge said Russell Brand would go to prison. The court will decide on his prison sentence soon. Brand can still try to appeal the decision, but for now, he is kept in custody until the sentence is given.
