Full-Fat Dairy May Not Raise Weight or Cholesterol
Follow spoken words in real time.
A new study from the University of Toronto looked at 74 overweight adults to see if full-fat dairy products, like whole milk, cheese, or yoghurt, cause weight gain or high cholesterol. People in the study ate three servings of full-fat dairy each day for 12 weeks. Researchers checked their weight, body fat, and cholesterol levels during this time.
For many years, health experts said low-fat dairy was better because full-fat versions have more saturated fat, which can be bad for the heart. This study wanted to find out if this advice was always true.
The main result was that people who ate more full-fat dairy did not gain extra weight or have higher cholesterol. In fact, their blood pressure went down, and they got more nutrients important for health, like calcium and vitamin D.
