On Tuesday, United States President Donald Trump will give the country’s top science and technology awards at the White House. Important business leaders including Elon Musk from SpaceX, Sergey Brin from Google, Jensen Huang from Nvidia, and Lisa Su from Advanced Micro Devices will each receive the National Medal of Science. Other winners, like Michael Dell of Dell Technologies and Satya Nadella of Microsoft, will receive the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. These awards recognise people who have done important work in computing, engineering, and artificial intelligence.

The main reason for the ceremony is to honour people who have helped the United States stay strong in science and technology. This year, the event happens during a science meeting about the future of superintelligence. Superintelligence means computers that are smarter than humans.

As a result, the government is showing that private companies play a big role in the nation’s progress. By giving these medals to well-known technology leaders, the administration is recognising their contributions and the importance of new ideas for the country’s future.
