A strong El Niño weather pattern is expected to get even stronger over the next months and could last until at least February 2027, says the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). El Niño is a natural climate event that starts in the Pacific Ocean when the surface water there becomes much warmer than usual. Experts believe the temperature in this part of the ocean could reach 3.7°C above normal between October and December, higher than the last strong El Niño in 2015–16.

El Niño happens because the Pacific Ocean’s surface water warms up more than usual. This extra heat changes global weather patterns. Warmer oceans give El Niño more energy, which can make its impacts bigger and more serious for the world.

The main result is that global weather could be affected. Some countries may have very hot weather or drought, while others might see heavy rain or storms. These changes can harm crops, raise food prices, and even increase health problems in some areas. Scientists use forecasts to warn governments so they can prepare for these possible dangers.
