A court in Seoul has sentenced former President Yoon Suk Yeol to seven years in prison. He was found guilty of resisting arrest and abusing power after being removed from office in 2024. The sentence was decided by the Seoul High Court on Wednesday.
The judges said that Yoon tried to stop justice by avoiding important legal steps, like skipping a required Cabinet meeting before declaring emergency law. He also gave false documents and used security staff to block police from arresting him after his impeachment.
This prison term is in addition to Yoon’s separate life sentence for trying to start military rule last December. His lawyers plan to appeal, and the legal process is expected to continue.
