Samsung SmartThings is paving the way for smart home platforms by becoming the first major platform to fully support Matter 1.2. This means that manufacturers and developers can now start integrating their compatible devices with the SmartThings platform. Although the SmartThings app won’t be updated to support Matter until later this summer, users can look forward to controlling their Matter-compatible devices through SmartThings soon.
In addition to its Matter update, Samsung has also introduced several other enhancements to its smart home platform. These include app design improvements, new device control options, a hub backup feature, shareable routines, and the gamification of its SmartThings Energy feature.
Support for Matter 1.2 in SmartThings opens the door for various appliances to work seamlessly with Samsung’s smart home platform. This includes a wide range of devices such as refrigerators, robot vacuums, air purifiers, and more. While Samsung’s connected appliances currently work with the SmartThings app, Matter-certified appliances can work with any smart home platform that supports Matter.
As other major platforms like Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple Home have yet to add support for Matter 1.2, Samsung SmartThings is leading the charge in providing a robust smart home experience for users. With these advancements, managing and controlling smart home devices has become easier and more reliable for SmartThings users.
