Uber, a famous ride-sharing company, has agreed to give $178m to taxi and hire car drivers in Australia. These drivers say that they lost money because of Uber, said Maurice Blackburn Lawyers. This law firm made the lawsuit for over 8,000 taxi and hire car drivers in 2019. They believe this is one of the best legal battles against Uber.
The law firm’s main lawyer, Michael Donelly, said, “Uber tried very hard to not give our drivers anything for their lost money. But finally, after many years, Uber changed its mind. Thousands of Australians stood up to this big global company.”
“This will be one of the biggest class action settlements in Australian law history. This shows that Uber had to pay for what it did,” Mr. Donelly added.
Uber said that it had helped state-level taxi schemes since 2018 with “significant” sums of money. The company wants to keep making it easy and safe for Australians to travel cheaply.
