Google recently introduced the Find My Device network on Android, which allows users to track their devices. However, a recent test comparing Find My Device trackers to Apple’s AirTag revealed some shortcomings in Google’s network. The test involved placing an AirTag and a Find My Device tracker from Pebblebee in a package and mailing it through the US Postal Service. While the AirTag provided regular updates on its location during the journey, the Pebblebee tracker only provided one update when it reached a warehouse, and that update kept reverting back to the user’s home location.
This test highlighted that Google’s network still has limitations compared to Apple’s AirTag. The Find My Device network is currently limited to “high-traffic” areas by default, which may explain why the tracker struggled to provide accurate location updates. Despite Google’s efforts to improve the network, it’s clear that there is still work to be done. Stay tuned for more updates on the Find My Device network, and feel free to share your experiences with the trackers in the comments.
