Amazon will not work with Flock Safety on a new plan. This news came out on Thursday. The plan was to let Ring doorbell camera users share videos with the police in some cases. This plan has not started yet.
Before this decision, Amazon showed an ad during the Super Bowl. The ad was about a feature called Search Party. This feature lets users share videos to help find lost dogs. People were worried that the cameras could also track people. This feature was not linked to Flock.
Senator Ed Markey wrote a letter to Amazon. He called the technology “creepy.”
Flock and Amazon both said the plan is canceled. Amazon said more time and resources were needed for the project. No videos were ever shared, and the plan was still in review.
Flock also confirmed the cancellation on their website. They said this decision helps them serve their customers better.
In the U.S., many homes now use doorbell cameras. About 27% of American households have them. Ring is the most popular brand.
