Classic Ferrari Dino GTS once owned by Led Zeppelin manager heads to auction

Share

A 1973 Ferrari 246 Dino GTS that once belonged to Peter Grant, the manager of the band Led Zeppelin, will be auctioned soon. This car is one of just 235 models with right-hand drive sold in the United Kingdom from 1972 to 1974. With only 1,007 miles driven and in the rare colour combination of ‘Rosso Bordeaux’ with brown leather interior, it is indeed a unique piece.

The car was given to Grant in 1973 and he drove it for about three years. While he owned it, the car was well taken care of, with the suspension system and brakes renovated and the radiator completely updated. A new, powerful starter motor was also installed. However, the car kept its original alloy wheels and control instruments.

Attached with this car, buyers will also find a comprehensive record that includes even the earlier correspondences with the Ferrari factory in Italy. Peter Grant’s name is also present in the first logbook available with the car, adding to its appeal.

As shared by Dale Vinten, the head of editorial at Car & Classic, who is managing the auction, “The Dino once owned by Peter Grant is a well looked-after example with a rich history.” The bidding will open on February 22 and close on the last day of the month, February 29. The estimated price is between £275,000 and £350,000.

Vinten added that this car is more than just a vehicle. It is a landmark of rock history, a treasured piece of Led Zeppelin memorabilia, and a beautiful example of a collector’s piece—the 246 Dino GTS. He believes that it is something of significant importance.
