Jay-Z Sues Rape Accuser for Admitting False Claims

Share

Jay-Z has initiated a lawsuit against an unnamed woman who leveled accusations of sexual assault against him the previous year, asserting that she has recently admitted to fabricating those serious allegations.

This legal action comes on the heels of the abrupt withdrawal of the initial lawsuit against Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) last month, alleging that the unnamed accuser and her attorney, Tony Buzbee, engaged in a “malicious conspiracy” aimed at extorting a settlement from the acclaimed artist through “false and malevolent” claims.

Significantly, the newly filed suit contends that the accuser has “voluntarily acknowledged” to Jay-Z’s representatives that he did not assault her and that Buzbee allegedly “coerced” her into making those accusations.

“Mr. Carter does not take this action lightly,” his legal counsel stated in a complaint lodged on March 3 in federal court in Alabama. “However, the extortion and mistreatment of Mr. Carter by the accuser and her attorneys must cease.”

In a statement to Billboard, Buzbee vehemently refuted the allegations, denouncing the case as “nonsense without legal footing.” He maintains that his client has endured harassment and intimidation from Jay-Z’s investigators, asserting that she remains steadfast in her allegations.

The alarming initial allegations against Jay-Z, filed in December, postulated that he and Sean “Diddy” Combs drugged and raped a 13-year-old girl at a post-event gathering for the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, a claim that significantly widened the scope of accusations against Combs while stirring speculation about potential additional culpability among other celebrities.

Jay-Z categorically denied the charges, labeling them a “blackmail attempt” and accusing Buzbee of seeking to extort from innocent public figures by falsely associating them with Diddy, pledging to vigorously defend his reputation without conceding to the accuser’s demands.

Following the unexplained retracing of Doe’s initial claims last month, which occurred without any financial remuneration from Jay-Z, the latter celebrated the withdrawal as a “victory,” while hinting at his intention to further exonerate himself: “When they quickly understand that the attempt at monetary gain will fail, they can walk away without consequences. The system has faltered.”

The newly filed lawsuit seeks to impose accountability for what Jay-Z’s legal team describes as malicious prosecution, abuse of process, and civil conspiracy, alleging that Doe and Buzbee colluded to exploit the court system to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of Shawn Corey Carter for potential financial gain.

“Defendants orchestrated and executed their scheme to accuse Mr. Carter of sexual assault, disseminating these fabricated claims through national media outlets, despite their baselessness,” according to the legal documents. “Their actions were deliberate and calculated to inflict maximal reputational harm and to compel Mr. Carter into compliance.”

Central to the new lawsuit is the revelation that the accuser has purportedly confessed to Jay-Z’s representatives that the allegations against him are false. An interview with NBC News highlighted significant inconsistencies in her narrative, and Jay-Z’s team has consistently claimed the initial lawsuit lacked merit. In their complaint, his attorneys assert that Doe has confirmed the allegations are unfounded.

“Doe has directly informed representatives of Mr. Carter that the narrative presented in court and on global media was entirely false,” the lawsuit asserts. “She acknowledged that Mr. Carter did not assault her; rather, it was Buzbee who pressured her to fabricate the story to secure a lucrative financial outcome.”

The specifics surrounding the timing and context of Doe’s admissions to Jay-Z’s representatives remain ambiguous. Requests for comment from his legal team went unanswered.

Aside from revisiting the prior lawsuit, Jay-Z’s attorneys assert that he now faces new “extortion threats” from Buzbee. They allege that last week, Doe’s attorneys threatened to release a statement claiming she experienced “harassment” from Jay-Z’s team and that she chose to drop the lawsuit due to fears for her safety if they disclose her acknowledgments regarding the falsehood of her accusations.

“In this manner, extortion and defamation threats continue unabated, necessitating Mr. Carter’s decisive action to thwart unscrupulous individuals from exploiting him further,” his attorneys contend.

This lawsuit marks another instance of Jay-Z’s proactive legal measures; prior to the high-profile rape allegation against him, he had quietly initiated a preemptive lawsuit using a John Doe alias, alleging extortion and defamation by Buzbee. Jay-Z’s involvement in that case became apparent only after the initial rape lawsuit was filed.

During a recent hearing, a judge in Los Angeles indicated that while he may dismiss Jay-Z’s extortion claims against Buzbee, he is likely to permit the defamation allegations against the attorney to proceed toward trial.
