Jesse Colin Young passed away at his home in South Carolina. He was 83 years old. His publicist, Michael Jensen, did not reveal the cause of his death. Young became famous in the hippie era. He was the lead singer of the band called the Youngbloods. His biggest hit was “Get Together”. This song was a top five hit in 1969.
Even though Young did not write “Get Together”, he made the song popular. The song was originally created by folk singer Dino Valenti. Young loved this song so much. He once said, “To this day, it gives me a thrill to play it.”
After the Youngbloods, Young had a solo career that lasted for over fifty years. He wrote some of the other popular Youngbloods’ songs. These songs were “Darkness, Darkness”, “Sunlight” and “Ride the Wind”. Each of these songs tells different stories about the world and love.
Young loved to write songs about nature. He said, “Love of the natural world is as much a theme in my music as romantic love.” This love for nature came from his walks on the ridgetop in Marin, California, where he lived for a long time. Those walks gave him more happiness than anything else.
