Microsoft discretely enhanced the free version of Copilot to GPT-4 Turbo: Understanding its significance

Share

Microsoft’s Copilot software now includes an upgraded feature – GPT-4 Turbo, a language model superior than the earlier version, GPT-4. The progression was conveyed by Mikhail Parakhin, the CEO of Advertising and Web Services at Microsoft. GPT-4 Turbo is advanced because of its expanded context window of 128,000 – four times larger than GPT-4, and an updated knowledge cutoff. The new model offers improved and smarter functions for users and is now accessible for free.

The primary difficulty in this upgrade, according to Parakhin, was to ensure user experience remained consistent or improved. Parakhin assures users that former problems with the GPT-4 Turbo have been resolved. The enhanced model did show better ability to process logical questions, proving it’s a worthwhile upgrade.

Microsoft Copilot: This is a software offered by the tech giant, Microsoft. It helps users by providing advanced language model functions, which have now been upgraded to GPT-4 Turbo.
Language Model: It is a technique used in natural language processing to predict the likelihood of a given sequence of words in a sentence.
GPT-4 and GPT-4 Turbo: These are different versions of the language model offered in the Copilot software. While GPT-4 is an earlier version, GPT-4 Turbo is the upgraded variant with enhanced functions such as a larger context window and updated knowledge cutoff.
Context Window: It’s the range of text the model processes in order to provide an appropriate response. A larger context window means the model can understand and process a bigger amount of text, enhancing its operational quality.
Knowledge Cutoff: It describes the most recent information the language model has access to. An updated knowledge cutoff refers to fresher and more relevant information that the model can use in its operation.
