Binance is a large company that helps people buy and sell digital money, called cryptocurrency. In a recent cyberattack, hackers stole about $6.3 billion worth of cryptocurrency from Binance. The company said it has replaced 90% of the stolen money using its own funds and emergency reserves, so customers do not lose their money. The other 10% of the assets are harder to replace because they are special digital coins that are not easy to buy quickly.
The main reason for this loss was a cyberattack by criminals who broke into a computer and used a dangerous computer program to hide their actions. The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said the attack was carried out by a group from North Korea, called TraderTraitor, which often tries to steal digital money online.
As a result of the attack, Binance temporarily stopped customers from taking money out. The company checked its systems to make sure they were safe and promised to continue replacing the missing assets until all customers are protected.
