The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that cancer will become a very serious health problem in the next 25 years. A new report from WHO and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) says that new cancer cases could rise from about 20.6 million each year now to nearly 35 million by 2050.
This increase is mostly because populations are growing, people live longer, and lifestyles are changing. Because of these changes, more people around the world are at risk of cancer.
As a result, almost every family may know someone with cancer during their lifetime. The report says this will mean more families must care for loved ones, and many people may face large medical bills and emotional stress while helping those with cancer.
