NASA Searches for Caves for Its First Moon Base
Follow spoken words in real time.
NASA, the United States space agency, is planning new missions to learn more about the Moon. NASA wants to build its first long-term base on the Moon. The Moon is very dangerous for people because there is no air, big changes in temperature, and harmful radiation from space.
The main reason for these new missions is NASA’s hope to find safer places for astronauts. Scientists think deep pits on the Moon may lead to caves made by old volcanoes. These caves could give natural protection from radiation, temperature changes, and tiny fast-moving space rocks. NASA will also look for ice in very cold parts of the Moon, which might help provide water, air, and rocket fuel.
Because of these plans, NASA has chosen three new projects. One project will study a big hole that might go to a cave. Another will look for ice in cold areas. The information from these missions will help NASA decide if it is safe and possible for people to live on the Moon in the future.
