The United States government has said it will put a new 50% tax, called a tariff, on about US$28 billion of Canadian goods. This plan could affect products like wood, cement, dairy, honey, and many things made in factories. If these tariffs start after a 30-day talk period, American companies will have to pay more when they bring these goods into the country.

The main reason for this decision is that the US believes Canadian trade rules are unfair to American businesses, especially in areas like cars, dairy, and drinks. The US says these Canadian policies hurt American industries and are not fair.

Because of the new tariffs, the price of some building materials, food, and everyday products may rise in American shops. Businesses and shoppers in the United States could pay more for some goods if the tariffs begin.
