US to unveil nuclear cooperation deal with Saudi Arabia
Follow spoken words in real time.
The United States and Saudi Arabia signed an important agreement on 22 July 2026. This deal allows American companies to give nuclear energy knowledge and equipment to Saudi Arabia for peaceful power use. The agreement is meant to last for 30 years and is worth several billion dollars.
Saudi Arabia wants this nuclear energy to help supply more electricity in the country. The main reason for this decision is to use less oil and gas for making electricity, so the country can sell more oil to other countries.
Because of the agreement, American companies can now work with Saudi Arabia on nuclear energy. The United States says there are strong safety rules to make sure all technology is used only for peaceful reasons, not for weapons.
