The report by Tom Richardson from BBC Newsbeat tells us that Pokémon Day is a global celebration for all fans. Every year, the event gives us a glimpse into the future plans for the Pokémon series.

The highlight this year was the announcement of a new title, Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Set to release on Nintendo Switch in 2025, this exciting news sparked speculations among fans. Some believe that this could be an early title on an upcoming sequel to Nintendo’s popular console.

Although the new console has not been officially announced, rumors suggest it may launch in spring. Also, with a trailer hinting at aspects like “simultaneous release” and “multiple switch systems”, many are convinced that the secret about the new console is out.

The recent games in the series, such as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, faced criticism due to performance issues. Another game, Palworld, essentially Pokémon with weapons, led some fans to feel that original series had lost its freshness. However, the new Pokémon Legends: Z-A shows promise, garnering a generally positive response.

In the teaser of the game, a computer-generated Pikachu running through a wireframe version of a city is shown. Later, other Pokémon can be seen at various locations like cafes and a river. The game is set in Lumiose City, revealed in a bird’s-eye-view of a circular city that resembles the Eiffel Tower. The teaser ends with a rainbow-colored S-shape, recognized by fans as a symbol of mega evolutions, causing excitement among them.

Additionally, Pokémon Day also brought news of a new app version of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Updates were also announced for Pokémon Go and other spin-offs. But with the release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A scheduled for 2025, the release calendar for Nintendo Switch has nothing major lined up yet.

Since its release in 2017, the Nintendo Switch console has sold almost 140 million units worldwide. This is more than the reported 117 million sales of PlayStation 4. All eyes will now be on Nintendo’s moves and what it has in store for its global fanbase.
