Valve representative clarifies that Sony, not Steam, delisted Helldivers 2

Steam representatives have clarified that it was Sony, not Steam, that decided to pull Helldivers 2 from sale in regions where PlayStation Network (PSN) is not available. This decision came after Sony initially announced that players on Steam would need to link their accounts to PSN for security reasons. However, due to backlash from players and negative reviews, Sony eventually overturned this mandate.

The confusion led to speculation about whether it was Steam or Sony responsible for the game’s removal in certain regions. In response to inquiries, players were directed to contact Sony directly for feedback. Despite the confusion, Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt reassured players that they are working to make the game available worldwide.

Furthermore, three additional regions were added to the restriction list, which Pilestedt explained as an “administrative error correction.” This adjustment was made in conjunction with a similar strategy for the game Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut. Pilestedt emphasized that these additional restrictions do not indicate further limitations and that discussions about region restrictions are ongoing.

Overall, the situation with Helldivers 2 highlights the challenges faced by Sony as they navigate player feedback and global availability issues. Arrowhead remains committed to ensuring the game’s accessibility, despite these hurdles.
