Haley Joel Osment, the erstwhile child prodigy known for iconic roles in films such as “The Sixth Sense” and “Blink Twice,” recently found himself embroiled in a perplexing incident at a California ski resort that unfolded on April 8. This excursion, ostensibly one characterized by winter recreation, took an unexpected turn as the actor encountered law enforcement officials, culminating in his arrest on charges of public intoxication and possession of an unspecified controlled substance.
The Mono County district attorney’s office has since communicated to The Times that Osment, now 37, faces two misdemeanor charges: one pertaining to disorderly conduct resulting from alcohol consumption, and the other for the possession of cocaine, arising from the aforementioned arrest. The arraignment is scheduled for July at the Mammoth Lakes branch of the Mono County Superior Court. A representative for Osment has not yet responded to inquiries for comments from The Times.
According to reports, law enforcement was summoned to the renowned Mammoth Mountain ski resort following complaints regarding an allegedly intoxicated individual. Upon arrival, ski patrollers were observed accompanying Osment, who was later captured on video by TMZ, ostensibly impeding the ski lift line while donning his helmet backward. Displeased resort patrons implored him to vacate the line; however, he reportedly disregarded this entreaty and resisted efforts by a resort staff member to escort him aside. The footage concludes with Osment traversing through the snow, ultimately disappearing from view.
Further complicating the narrative, reports indicate that Osment allegedly directed derogatory remarks, including accusations of being a “Nazi” and using anti-Semitic slurs, towards the arresting officer. Sgt. Jason Heilman of the Mammoth Lakes Police Department confirmed to People that Osment has since been booked and is no longer in custody.
Osment’s history has not been without legal entanglements; he faced similar issues in 2006 with a misdemeanor drunk driving charge and more recently, in 2018, prompted law enforcement intervention at a Las Vegas airport due to alleged verbal threats made toward airline staff.
