Global Food Prices Dip, but Stay Above Last Year’s Level
Follow spoken words in real time.
Global food prices went down a little in October 2026, but they were still higher than in October 2025. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a group that checks food prices around the world. The FAO Food Price Index in October was 133.9 points, which is 1.2% lower than the month before, but 5.9% higher than one year ago.
Food prices fell because there was less demand for some foods and people expected bigger supplies. Prices for cereals, meat, and dairy became cheaper, with the biggest drop in the cereal price because the prices of wheat and maize, which is a type of corn, went down.
Because of these price changes, food is still not cheap for families. The FAO also said that global cereal production will stay high in 2026, but it will be less than in 2025. Still, 41 countries or areas need help with food.
