Russia Is Using Its Own Satellite Network in Ukraine, Kyiv Says
Follow spoken words in real time.
Ukrainian military intelligence says Russia is now using a new satellite network called Rassvet in its war against Ukraine. The Rassvet system sends signals from satellites in space down to the ground, helping Russian soldiers talk to each other. Ukrainian officials also believe the system helps Russian drones, which are small flying machines used for fighting or spying in the war.
The reason Russia is using the Rassvet network is because normal phone and radio networks on the ground are often damaged during battles. Satellite communications can work in places where regular systems are destroyed or not working.
Because of Rassvet, Russian military units can now share information more easily and their drones might become more accurate. Ukraine says Russia has already sent 32 Rassvet satellites into space and plans to launch more before the end of 2026 to make the network stronger.
