SpaceX shares plunge to record low after aborted Starship test-flight
Follow spoken words in real time.
On Friday, shares of SpaceX, an American space company, dropped by 6.2% on the Nasdaq stock market. This was the largest fall in their price since the company started trading and made the shares worth less than ever before. The reason was a high-profile technical failure during a test of SpaceX’s new Starship rocket.
The fall happened because engineers had to stop the Starship rocket launch on Thursday. They cancelled the launch just before take-off after the safety system found a problem in the rocket's engine. The rocket was not damaged, but the test had to be postponed.
After this, SpaceX’s stock price went down because investors were worried about the company’s ability to complete its next planned launches. SpaceX has not yet said when they will try the Starship test again.
